Temperatures range from the mid-70s in winter to the mid-80s in summer. Annual rainfall averages 45 inches and trade winds are nearly constant. Low humidity year-round.

All the signs pointed towards Antigua in the Leeward Islands. The  island had warm, steady winds, a complex coastline of safe harbors, and a protective, nearly unbroken wall of coral reef. It would make a perfect place to hide a fleet. And so in 1784 the legendary Admiral Horatio Nelson sailed to Antigua, in the British West Indies and established Great Britain's most important Caribbean (Lesser Antilles) base. Little did he know that over 200 years later the same unique characteristics that attracted the Royal Navy would transform Antigua and Barbuda in one of the Caribbean's premier tourist destinations.

A beach for every day of the year

Beach Lover's Guide to Antigua
With all the sandy nooks available on Antigua, it's a great place to find a beach to call your own - at least for the day. Here are six sure-fire beaches that won't be overrun by cruise-shippers and t-shirt sellers, and detailed directions on how to find them.

Silken sands. Captivating coves. Secluded shores. There are 365 beaches in Antigua, most located on the island's calm, protected Caribbean side. Tucked along the bays of the island, Antigua's beaches are some of the most pristine in the Caribbean. Warm, steady trade winds, a complex coastline of safe harbors, and a protective, nearly unbroken wall of coral reef make Antigua a delight for sun worshippers and watersports enthusiasts. Antigua's weather is ideal with less than 45 inches of rainfall each year, making it the sunniest of the Eastern Caribbean Islands (Lesser Antilles).
