My wife and I just spent 5 nights there. It was wonderfully relaxing. We never wandered more than 200 yards from our room in that time. The property is well kept, well run and pleasantly quiet. The beach is lovely and quite private, but be aware that it is short enough that if you love to hike for long stretches on a beach, you will be going back and forth on this one. The length of the beach is more than made up for by the fact that it was just 15 steps from our room's sitting porch. While the water is clearer and calmer on other sides of Antigua, we didn't mind what we had, one bit.

Keeping in mind that this is not London or another big city, the service was very good. What may have been lost, in some cases, between training and implementation was more than made up for by generous attitudes and great intentions.

The food was quite good. It's not inexpensive. I suspect that the Euro-denominated guests are numerous enough that Carlisle Bay and other high end resorts have simply let their U.S. dollar pricing rise as the dollar became cheaper for Brits and others. Nobody signs on for Carlisle Bay because he imagines he's getting a great bargain. I found that a $27 cheeseburger (includes 10% service fee and 10.5% local tax) at lunch tastes far better if one gazes out across the bay, whilst chewing slowly, all the while appreciating that the surroundings are part of the price being paid.

Great tennis facilites. The exercise room and equipment are first-rate. My wife said the spa massages, Pilates and yoga classes were all well done. Internet wireless worked all the time.

They do a fine job of putting families with children at one end of the resort and couples at the other. Our Ocean Suite was wonderful. Be aware that these are stacked in 3's. So, ask for a first floor suite if you don't want stairs and you do want to be able to walk straight out your door to the beach.

We may or may not return, given our desire to keep shopping around, but we will certainly recommend Carlisle Bay to friends.
