“Wonderful stay at Four Seasons Nevis” Returned a week ago from a wonderful stay in Nevis at the Four Seasons. Would love to go back. After checking reviews here regularly I felt obligated to enter one myself. First we were there for a 25th anniversary trip (didn't get invited for a cruise of the island like hgoldman though) and were not bothered at all by children or loud guests. Granted we were there during a fairly slow time. We stayed in building 11 with a mountain view room. This is on the quieter end of the property and our room was ultra quiet even though we did see other guests coming and going from our building. Perhaps I am out of touch, but I didn't find a thing wrong with our room at all! It didn't seem dated at all, it was very spacious and the bath room was huge. The bed was ultra comfortable. Being in this building also gave us access to the adult pool most quickly. We had excellent poolside service, and no kids at the adult pool. I was able to lap swim there in the early morning. The family pool was where all the noise and activity stayed. Many of the ocean view rooms appeared to be also poolside so if you had small children this might be handy, especially if you stayed on the bottom level you could easily access the family pool and beach. We enjoyed being on the 2nd level with a screened porch. Mountainside has afternoon shade (morning sun) and a view of the driving range and mountain, and of the 3rd fairway. We had wonderful twice daily maid service. We also had access to a laundry room in our building and were provided one load of detergent. Wish I had know this when I was stressing over packing, this was great for sweaty tennis and golf clothes. We found the best food value at the hotel to be the breakfast. Not the ultra buffet, but ordering off the menu. $15 to 20 per person for a great start to the day. Dinner our first night at Mangos started off with a discussion about not having reservations which apparently is very strongly encouraged. We arrived at the restaurant at around 5:50 PM and saw 1 table with guests, but the hostess informed us without reservations, they were booked and we wouldn't be able to dine there. Fortunately a waitress that had heard us say we had just arrived in Nevis intervened and stopped us as we were leaving and we had a wonderful dinner with a terrific view. She explained to us that in the future when dinning out we needed to make reservations, mostly as a courtesy I believe. We did return to eat at Mangos but were very disappointed to find out they had discontinued local seafood from their menu!! Bummer, the half spiney lobster was the best item on the menu. Had a pizza at Neve for dinner that was good. Didn't ever try dinner at the dinning room, kind of forgot about it. My husband played golf and I rode along, the course is beautiful but they had just scalped the greens and sanded them, so they were in pretty bad shape, should be good by now though. Just bad timing. The views from the course are beautiful and the monkeys we saw in the afternoon were delightful. If you want to see the course and some of the villas around but don't play golf there are 3 walking paths marked along the course that you can follow (walk early in the day before the heat). The monkeys are out high on the course in the Am and late afternoon. The tennis pro, Donald, was very nice. We played in the weekly round robin on Monday. Would have played more but so many other things to do. Went snorkeling on the trip arranged through the hotel over to St Kitts via catamaran, the Caona I think, and really enjoyed that. We also did a cab tour of the island, also arranged through the hotel, with "Teach" , which I would highly recommend. This enabled us to visit the plantation inns, see downtown, grocery/liquor shop a little, and get to more know about Nevis. The boat ride to/from St Kitts was nice too, I guess if you don't like boats maybe you shouldn't do it, but hey, you are in the islands, riding in a boat looking at a great view. We rode over on a smaller boat that carried about 12-15 people, open air. Going home we were on the larger launch which has indoor and outdoor (on top) seating. We rode inside, which was quite breezy with 2 doors and the 1 window open. Both were fine, better than fine, fun. And I have been know to get seasick. We found the concierge staff very helpful and cheerful, as well as everyone else at the 4 seasons. We loved Nevis and would love to return. |
